Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme Introduction

Eligibility of PMSS Scholarship

The eligibility criteria for the Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme (PMSS) for wards of Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Railway Protection Special Force (RPSF) personnel are as follows:

1. Eligible Courses:

  • The scholarship is available for pursuing professional and technical courses only.
  • These courses include but are not limited to:
    • Engineering: BE, B.Tech
    • Medical: MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BUMS, BHMS
    • Management: MBA
    • Computer Applications: BCA, MCA
    • Pharmacy: B.Pharma
    • Nursing: B.Sc Nursing
    • Other professional courses approved by the respective regulatory body

2. Minimum Entry Qualification (MEQ):

  • Applicants must have secured a minimum of 60% marks in the qualifying exam (such as 12th standard, diploma, or graduation) relevant to the course they are applying for.

3. Family Limit:

  • Only two children from a family are eligible to receive the scholarship.

4. Parental Service Requirement:

  • The scholarship is available to the wards of:
    • Ex/Serving RPF/RPSF personnel.
    • Widows of RPF/RPSF personnel.

5. Admission:

  • Students must have secured regular admission to a recognized institution in one of the eligible professional or technical courses.
  • Admission should be in the first year of the course. Lateral entry and direct entry students are also eligible.

6. Exclusion Criteria:

  • Students who are pursuing studies abroad.
  • Students enrolled in distance learning programs.
  • Students receiving a similar scholarship from another scheme are typically not eligible.

7. Renewal Criteria:

  • Scholarship renewal is contingent upon the student maintaining a minimum of 50% marks in each academic year, passing all subjects, and continuing in the same course and institution.

How Much Money Do You Get?

Boys receive ₹2,500 per month, and girls receive ₹3,000 per month. The scholarship lasts from two to five years, depending on the length of your course.

Document Required for PMSS Scholarship 2024

Following documents in the respective category are mandatorily required to be submitted/ uploaded by the applicant for applying under PMSS:

Proof of Admission– Admission letter or joining report issued by the college/university
– Fee receipt for the current academic year

– Mark sheets of the last qualifying examination (for renewal applicants)
Parental Service Certificate– Service Certificate issued by the current employer
– Discharge certificate (for ex-RPF/RPSF personnel)
Death Certificate (if applicable)– Death certificate of the RPF/RPSF personnel (if the applicant is a ward of a deceased member)
Bank Account Details– Copy of the applicant’s bank passbook or canceled cheque
– Bank account should be in the applicant’s name and linked to their Aadhaar number
Income Certificate (if applicable)– Income certificate may be required in some states
Affidavit/Undertaking– An affidavit or undertaking stating that the student is not availing of any other scholarship
Passport-size Photograph– Recent passport-size photograph of the applicant
Domicile Certificate (if applicable)– Domicile certificate may be required in some states
Certificate for Professional Courses– Proof of course recognition by the respective regulatory body (like AICTE, UGC, MCI, etc.)

How Is the Money Paid?

After your application is verified, the scholarship money is sent directly to your bank account through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. This makes sure the money reaches you quickly and securely.

  • College Verification Deadline: 15th November

How to Apply PMSS Scholarship for RPF (Ministry of Railways)
